Governors

In November, gubernatorial seats in 11 states are up for election. Of the 11 gubernatorial seats up for election in 2024, 3 seats are currently held by Democrats, and 8 seats are currently held by Republicans. Click here to access MultiState's in-depth coverage of the 2024 gubernatorial elections.

Legislatures

In 2024, legislative seats in 44 states are up for election, amounting to more than 5,800 races. Of the 44 states with legislative elections in 2024, 17 are currently controlled by Democrats, 25 are currently controlled by Republicans, and two have split governments. Click here to access MultiState's in-depth coverage of the 2024 state legislative elections. 

Trifectas

A state government trifecta occurs when a political party controls both chambers of the legislature as well as the governor’s mansion. Lieutenant Governors

This year, lieutenant gubernatorial seats in nine states are up for election. Attorneys General

Attorney general (AG) seats in ten states are up for election this year. Of the ten attorney general seats up for election in 2024, five seats are currently held by Democrats, and five seats are currently held by Republicans. Secretaries of State
