Maureen B. Riehl

Principal & General Counsel

Maureen is Principal and General Counsel with MultiState Associates. She joined the firm in October 2015, and leads the firm's Strategic Government Relations Practice, providing custom solutions to clients utilizing all the unique tools and team members at MultiState. As a recognized advocate, Maureen has more than 30 years of state and federal coalition and association management, communications, media, and public affairs experience. Maureen's team supports the state affairs efforts of several MultiState clients and managed coalitions, including those addressing interstate tax, legalized sports betting, protections for student athletes, privacy and identity security, franchise issues, free speech and advertising, consumer packaged goods, and several others.  

Maureen is a founding member of the Business Advisory Board for the American Irish State Legislators Caucus (AISLC) and also provides association management support for the Institute for State Policy Leaders (ISPL). Her work has encompassed both the public and private sector, advising organizations on their strategic planning, public policy, communications, and outreach strategies. 

Maureen is also an accomplished speaker, state affairs expert, and media commentator. Her passion is mentoring young people interested in the profession of advocacy. Her projects have spanned all fifty states.  

Maureen began her career in government affairs as legislative staff for members of both the Michigan House and Senate. She earned dual undergraduate degrees from Michigan State University (political science and communications), and a J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar. 

Maureen has two fully independent adult sons (!!) and when not at MultiState HQ, resides in Naples, FL, or County Donegal, Ireland, with her husband Scott.
